Do you have a suggestion for a UUFSMA Social Action “Blue Plate Special”?

The Social Action Committee (SAC) of the UUFSMA would like to learn about groups our members are working with or know of that should be “on our radar.” The SAC is dedicated to reviewing and making recommendations on requests for what we call our “Blue Plate Specials” from local organizations not currently supported by our Fellowship.

Blue Plate Specials are donations collected from the entire offering plate on a designated Sunday (minus pledges) and are awarded quarterly. Recipients must meet the following criteria:

  • May or may not be an Asociaciòn Civil (AC) or not-for-profit Nongovernmental Organization (NGO).
  • Not already supported by a grant through the UUF.  Currently, we support the following NGOs:
  • Caminos de Agua
  • Caminamos Juntos
  • Casita Linda
  • CEDESA
  • Centro de Apoyo Infantil de Los Ángeles
  • El Charco del Ingenio
  • Escuela de Educación Especial de SMA
  • Feed the Hungry
  • Fundación de Apoyo Infantil
  • Jóvenes Adelante
  • Mujeres en Cambio
  • Patronato Pro Ninos
  • Ninos Con Autismo
  • Accompanied by a member of the Fellowship when making purchases; and able to provide receipts or facturas for funds received.
  • Aligned with one or more of our seven Unitarian Universalist Principles:
  1. Recognition of the inherent worth and dignity of every  person.
  2. The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregation and society at large.
  3.  Justice, equity, and compassion in human relations.
  4. The goal of world community with peace,  liberty, and justice for all.
  5. Acceptance of one another and encouragement of spiritual growth in our congregations.
  6. Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
  7. A free and responsible search for truth and meaning.

  • Generally a one-time need, but exceptions can be made.
  • Builds capacity in the given organization.
  • Organization is sustainable and has a track record.
  • Applicants give a clear 5 minute presentation at a Sunday Service, explaining the need.
