Social Action

Mission
Consistent with the principles of the Unitarian Universalist Association and the mission of Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Miguel de Allende, this committee’s mission is to provide the UUFSMA responsible stewardship of its social action vision through the development and implementation of a fair and effective program to advocate for, volunteer with and grant funds to organizations that enhance human and civil rights such as education, environmental security, health, housing, and immigration within and around the community of
San Miguel de Allende.

Vision
That UUFSMA maintains and enhances its position as a local, national, and global leader
in effective UU Social Action.
The UUFSMA Social Action Committee (SAC) harnesses the energy of our congregation to improve the quality of life for Mexicans in need in the San Miguel de Allende area through gifts of time, talent and treasure.

Since 2002, we have administered a grant program for nonprofit organizations to achieve that mission. Over time, we have committed to giving a significant portion of our funds to local Nongovernmental Organizations.

In addition, each quarter the Social Action Committee and the Congregation identify organizations with special, often one-time needs, for which the entire Sunday offering is given. We call these donations our “Blue Plate Specials.” For a list of recent recipients, click on the button below.
